YOUR QUESTIONS
Before you arrive.
What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a form of healthcare that assesses and treats problems affecting the muscles, joints and other parts of the body. An osteopath considers your symptoms, medical history and movement, then discusses a plan that may include hands-on treatment, exercises and practical advice. We’ll explain our findings and refer you for other care when appropriate.
What happens at my first appointment?
We’ll ask about your symptoms, health and goals, then carry out an examination with your consent. We’ll explain what we find, discuss your options and provide treatment where appropriate. You’ll have time to ask questions.
How long is an appointment, and what does it cost?
Both initial and follow-up appointments are 40 minutes. Our opening clinic offer is £60 for an initial consultation (usually £65) and £55 for a follow-up (usually £60), for a limited time. You can see the fees on our appointments page.
How can I pay?
We currently only accept cash and bank transfer payments.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that lets you move easily. Depending on the area being assessed, we may ask you to uncover it, but we’ll explain why and respect your comfort and choices throughout.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can contact us directly to arrange an osteopathy appointment. If your symptoms need medical assessment or another type of care, we’ll discuss that with you.
How many appointments will I need?
That depends on your concern and how you respond. We’ll discuss a plan after assessing you and review it together as you progress. There’s no set course of appointments for everyone.
Can I visit during pregnancy or bring my child?
Yes. Emily offers individualised care during pregnancy and for babies and children, including cranial-sacral osteopathic treatment where appropriate. Please tell us when you enquire so we can arrange the appropriate appointment. A parent or guardian must attend a child’s appointment.
Where is the clinic?
Our home clinic is based at our home in a purpose-built clinic garden room in Bishop’s Stortford. There is free off-road parking on the driveway of the house. We’ll provide the full address and arrival details when your appointment is confirmed.
How can I ask a question or book?
You can book online. For questions, WhatsApp us, call 07506 001857 or email Raeosteopathy@gmail.com. We guarantee a same-day response to WhatsApp enquiries.
BABIES & CHILDREN
Paediatric care.
Can babies and children see an osteopath?
Yes. Emily offers paediatric osteopathic appointments and may use gentle cranial-sacral techniques where appropriate. She adapts the assessment and any treatment to your child’s age, comfort and needs, and talks through each step with you.
Does Emily offer cranial-sacral osteopathy?
Yes. Cranial-sacral osteopathy is one of the gentle hands-on approaches Emily may use, including in paediatric care when appropriate. She’ll explain what she proposes and ask for consent before treatment. We don’t assume a particular technique is right for every patient.
What happens at a baby’s first appointment?
Emily will ask about your baby’s health, birth and any concerns you have, then carry out a gentle assessment. She’ll explain her findings and discuss whether treatment, advice or a referral to another healthcare professional is appropriate.
Will I stay with my child during the appointment?
Yes. A parent or guardian must attend for the duration of the appointment. We’ll ask for your consent and respond to your child’s comfort throughout.
What should I bring for my baby or child?
Bring anything that helps them feel comfortable, such as a feed, nappy supplies or a favourite toy. If you have relevant medical information, you’re welcome to bring that too.
What if my baby is unwell?
If your baby is unwell or you’re worried about their health, contact your GP, NHS 111 or urgent care as appropriate. Osteopathy does not replace medical assessment for an unwell child. You can message us to rearrange the appointment.
APPOINTMENT CHANGES
Cancellation policy.
Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Appointments changed or cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged at the full appointment fee. This gives us a fair chance to offer the time to another patient and helps us keep our small family-run clinic running. Please contact us as soon as you know your plans have changed.
STILL UNSURE?
We’re happy to help.
Tell us what you’d like to ask, and we’ll get back to you the same day on WhatsApp.
